Tamil Nadu launches semiconductor ecosystem scheme topping up central aid
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Thursday launched the Tamil Nadu Semiconductor Ecosystem Scheme, aimed at attracting chip-manufacturing investment and positioning the state as an advanced electronics manufacturing hub. The scheme offers financial incentives over and above central assistance, spanning wafer fabrication, raw materials, assembly, testing, packaging and supply. Under the first of two categories, the state tops up projects approved under the centre's Semicon India Programme 2.0 and the India Semiconductor Mission; under the second, it offers customised, need-based incentives to eligible projects not covered by the centre but considered strategically important for the state's ecosystem. The launch follows the Chief Minister's August Assembly announcement of a Semiconductor and Electronics Park at Madhuramangalam in Kancheepuram district. Incentive quantum, budget and project-selection criteria have not been disclosed in the report.
