How we pick and verify

What counts as deep tech

Deep tech means creating new technology. The innovation is the product. A company that uses established technology to build an app or a service is not deep tech, however clever the app is. A quantum computing startup raising money counts. A customer engagement platform raising money does not.

In: semiconductors, space, defence technology, quantum, biotech and medical devices, robotics, energy and materials (batteries, hydrogen, fusion, advanced materials), and AI at the research or infrastructure level (foundation models, GPUs, AI chips, data centres, physical AI).

Out: generic SaaS, consumer apps and gadgets, IT services, and fintech, edtech, ecommerce or mobility products built on existing technology. Also out: AI adoption surveys, AI regulation talk, job-market stories, stock picks and phone reviews.

How the news feed works

We collect headlines from the public feeds of selected outlets plus news search results. Every headline must name a deep-tech subject to get in, and anything matching an exclusion rule is dropped. Each item shows the headline, the outlet, the time and a small thumbnail, and links to the original story. We do not copy article text. The rules are keyword based, so some calls will be wrong. When they are, we fix the rules.

Who is included

An investor is listed if deep tech is a stated core focus, or a large, visible part of its portfolio, in at least one of these sectors. Pure SaaS, fintech or consumer funds are out. Borderline cases are listed with a note.

Sectors: Semiconductors, Space, Defence, Biotech, AI / deep compute, Robotics, Advanced materials, Energy tech.
