QFX wins £6.8 million contract for strontium optical-clock hardware
QFX, an Oxford University spinout, has been awarded a £6.8 million Innovate UK contract for Phase II of its SrROCK programme, according to the company's October 14 release. The programme will develop a compact, low-power strontium optical-clock physics package using atomic-source and vacuum technologies for data-centre timing and future space applications. It will demonstrate timing performance and conduct space-relevant testing before potential customer adoption and future qualification. This is a development contract, not an equity funding round, a finished space-qualified clock or an operating distributed quantum computer. No achieved timing accuracy or launch mission is disclosed. QFX's separate £2 million 2025 investment is background, not part of the £6.8 million contract.
