EMode Photonix raises $1 million to speed up photonic circuit simulation for quantum hardware
Boulder-based EMode Photonix has raised a $1 million pre-seed round led by Ground State Ventures, with participation from Harlow Capital Management, The Quantum Insider reports from the company's press release. The startup says its simulation stack, built on proprietary computational techniques, models nonlinear photonic circuits 1,000 times faster than existing approaches; these are company claims. The software is meant to help engineers design devices that shift light between frequencies or convert classical light into quantum light, which trapped-ion, neutral-atom and photonic quantum computers rely on. Funds will go to product development and sales as the company prepares an enterprise offering for complete photonic integrated circuit design. EMode was co-founded by Eric and Maiya Stanton; CEO Eric Stanton previously researched photonics at UC Santa Barbara, NIST and the University of Colorado Boulder.
