Vultr plans a 20MW AMD GPU cluster in Chennai, India's largest AMD Instinct deployment
Cloud infrastructure company Vultr has announced it will deploy a 20MW cluster of AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs in Chennai, Analytics India Magazine reports. Vultr says it will be India's largest AMD Instinct GPU deployment and one of the world's largest, alongside its supercluster in Springfield, Ohio, and is aimed at organisations that need in-country AI training, fine-tuning and inference for data sovereignty and latency reasons. AMD launched the MI355X in June; the accelerator carries 288 GB of HBM3E memory, compared with 180 GB on Nvidia's B200. Vultr operates 34 cloud data centre regions across 17 countries and plans further AMD-based expansion next year, including next-generation MI455X GPUs and the Helios rack-scale architecture. Chennai is one of India's main data centre hubs; CapitaLand recently announced a ₹1,940 crore investment in a facility there, and STT GDC India, CtrlS and Sify are also expanding in the city.
