SCL offers space-grade chips to private firms facing import delays
Illustrative semiconductor image used by Moneycontrol; not identified as an SCL deviceSemiconductor Laboratory (SCL) is offering its space-grade chips to private space companies, startups and MSMEs as an alternative to imports affected by procurement delays and counterfeit risks, Moneycontrol reports. At an IN-SPACe meeting on October 13, director general Kamaljeet Singh said the Mohali laboratory was open to prototypes, customised chips and fit-and-form replacements. Its 180-nanometre fabrication line supports analogue, digital, radio-frequency and mixed-signal devices for applications including satellites, payloads and launch-vehicle avionics. SCL officials said around 15 products had flight heritage, 33 were qualified and 40 were silicon-validated. Singh also said SCL had recorded no field failure in the devices it supplied to ISRO over 40 years. These are statements by SCL reported by Moneycontrol, not independent reliability testing. The outreach asks private firms to assess component suitability; the report does not announce a new supply contract or a completed adoption programme.
