SpectraGaze raises ₹3.7 crore to build Indian infrared detectors and imaging payloads
Ahmedabad-based SpectraGaze Systems has raised ₹3.7 crore in a seed round led by venture capital firm GVFL, with angel investors also participating - the startup's first external fundraise after three years running on customer programmes. Founded in 2023 by former ISRO scientist Arup Banerjee, SpectraGaze builds optical imaging sensors and electro-optical payloads for space, defence and scientific use, including infrared detectors - sensors that capture infrared light our eyes cannot see, used in satellite imaging payloads and defence systems. Its customers include ISRO, the Physical Research Laboratory and Kaynes Technology: it has delivered an infrared detector and a test system to ISRO, holds an image sensor development contract with AMETEK for ISRO's next-generation HRSAT Earth-observation constellation, won the iDEX PRIME Challenge for an indigenous Infrared Detector Dewar Cooler Assembly - the challenge brief says that detector is currently not made in India - and is building a hyperspectral imaging camera for Kaynes Technology's first satellite, due for delivery in November 2026. The funding will go toward product development, delivering on customer programmes, expanding the engineering team, upgrading testing infrastructure and business development.
