MuRay secures €7.1 million in private and public funding for muon imaging
Hamburg-based MuRay has secured €7.1 million in combined financing: a €3.5 million private round and €3.6 million in non-dilutive public funding, including a Horizon Europe grant. First Momentum Ventures led the private round, co-led by Caelora, a Marvel Fusion subsidiary. Superangel, Mätch VC, Arcas VC, Tiny VC and existing investor Nordic Science Investments also participated. The combined total is not a €7.1 million venture-capital round. Founded by co-CEOs Andi Hektor and Kristjan Põder, MuRay is developing Active Muon Imaging. Controlled beams of muons pass through dense materials that limit conventional X-rays, with detectors and software used to reconstruct internal structures. The initial target is inspection of safety-critical components such as rocket engines and gas-turbine parts. Performance and radiation-dose advantages remain company claims, not independently validated results here. The company plans a first industrial imaging service in 2027 using DESY's existing electron beam, and a full-scale laser-accelerator system in 2029. Work with DLR has modelled a rocket-engine inspection, with a first real-world assessment planned for 2027. Commercial service, mobile systems and broader uses remain on the roadmap.
