PsiQuantum unveils optical circuit switch for AI data centers
PsiQuantum has unveiled an 8×8 optical circuit switching demonstration built on the low-loss silicon photonics platform it has spent nearly a decade developing for utility-scale quantum computing. Company lab testing showed typical insertion loss of 1.2 dB, 40 dB crosstalk and reconfiguration under 3 milliseconds, without optical amplification - results PsiQuantum says exceed the initial targets for the devices. The company is sharing demonstration samples with selected prospective customers and plans to develop commercial products for AI data-center connectivity while continuing work on fault-tolerant quantum computers. It has also developed barium titanate integration at 300mm wafer scale and uses a 64×64 BTO switch in its quantum systems, though BTO is not required for the demonstration vehicle. In September 2026, PsiQuantum signed definitive documentation with the US Department of Commerce to accelerate research, development and domestic manufacturability of critical components including high-performance optical switches.
