Quantum Systems says its battery-electric demonstrator hit 483 mph in a record attempt
German drone maker Quantum Systems says its battery-powered experimental aircraft, the Apex Recordhunter, reached 483 mph (777 km/h) during a record attempt, Mint reports, citing Interesting Engineering. The mark is not yet an official record: the aircraft must complete a return flight to account for wind effects. The run tops the 434 mph (699 km/h) the demonstrator reached in June, which the company at the time described as an unofficial world best for a battery-electric flying object. Built in about a year by Quantum Systems' experimental N3XT team, the Recordhunter is a technology demonstrator using specialised battery cells developed by a Porsche subsidiary. The company says the findings will feed its drone development programmes, including technologies designed to counter fast-moving aerial threats.
