VoltR's remanufactured lithium batteries enter production in Somfy motors

French battery remanufacturer VoltR and home automation group Somfy have taken their partnership into production: remanufactured lithium batteries made in France now power Somfy's SONESSE 28 motors for interior blinds, in use since early 2026. The companies began with prototypes in the summer of 2023 and ran joint validation of technical performance, environmental impact, industrial feasibility and cost before integration. VoltR says a comparative lifecycle analysis shows the remanufactured batteries cut production-related greenhouse gas emissions by 68% while reducing mineral, energy and water use. The partnership also targets supply-chain resilience: 94% of lithium batteries used in Europe are imported from Asia, and VoltR is building a local remanufacturing chain from resources already in the region. VoltR recently secured 22 million euros to scale its battery remanufacturing operations in Europe.
