Pixxel establishes Pixxel Federal to pursue US government satellite missions
Official Pixxel Federal announcement graphic; PixxelPixxel has established Pixxel Federal, a US subsidiary focused on Earth observation technology, satellite mission systems and geospatial intelligence for civilian, defence and intelligence agencies. Allyson Jenkins, previously Pixxel's vice-president for the public sector, is CEO of the new entity. A Washington, DC-area office is planned, not yet announced as open. The subsidiary will draw on hyperspectral satellites, Earth-intelligence software and satellite systems. Hyperspectral imaging measures many narrow bands of light to help identify materials and changes that ordinary images can miss. Potential uses include camouflage detection, terrain analysis, critical-mineral and rare-earth detection, environmental monitoring and agriculture. Pixxel already has engagements through NASA's Commercial SmallSat Data Acquisition programme and the National Reconnaissance Office's Strategic Commercial Enhancements programme. The new subsidiary will seek additional federal business; its creation is not itself a new contract award. Its board includes retired Lieutenant General Ray Palumbo, former Northrop Grumman executive Patrick M. Antkowiak and former intelligence executive Frank X. Avila. The October 29 announcement follows September's $100 million Series C, co-led by Temasek and Seraphim. That older funding is context, not a fresh round.
