Northwood raises $375 million for satellite ground networks

Northwood has closed a $375 million Series C co-led by a16z and DFJ Growth. The Torrance company designs and manufactures antennas and operates shared ground stations that bring data between satellites and Earth. Satellite operators book network capacity instead of building their own stations. Portal phased arrays steer radio beams electronically for command and control; Prism dishes handle high-rate payload data. Northwood reports six sites across two continents and says ten Portal antennas together matched the receiving performance of a 20-foot dish. Funding supports existing contract delivery, hiring and expansion. The company targets sites capable of more than 100 Gbps in high-demand regions by the end of 2027, a future target rather than current performance. A separate HSBC credit facility is not included in the equity round.

Additional reporting

Round

$375 million closed Series C equity financing, announced November 2, 2026.

Co-leads

Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and DFJ Growth.

Participants

Washington Harbour Partners, Alpine Space Ventures, Stepstone Activate and In-Q-Tel, among others.

What it builds

Portal phased arrays for satellite command and control, and Prism dishes for high-rate payload data. A phased array steers its radio beam electronically instead of turning a whole dish.

Shared infrastructure

Operators reserve satellite contacts through software rather than constructing dedicated ground stations. Northwood also sells antenna systems to selected customers.

Demonstrated scale

Six sites on two continents. Ten Portal antennas combined to achieve the receiving performance of a 20-foot dish. A Space Force prototype demonstrated a two-way link to a geostationary satellite.

Future capacity

Sites capable of more than 100 Gbps in high-demand regions are targeted by the end of 2027. This is not current network capacity.

Use of funds

Deliver existing contracts, hire and expand the ground network. A separate multi-year HSBC Innovation Banking credit facility supports working capital and expansion; it is not part of the $375 million equity amount.

Factory / team

185,000-square-foot Torrance headquarters and factory opened in September 2026. More than 140 employees; plans to add 400 jobs over three years.

Earlier round

Earlier $100 million Series B led by Washington Harbour Partners and co-led by a16z.

Valuation

TechCrunch reports a $2 billion valuation. The checked company release does not disclose a valuation.
